Working with occupiers to improve sustainability
Our 2008 customer survey identified that the top environmental priorities for our occupiers are energy efficiency and waste management.

We are working with our occupiers to improve sustainability across our portfolio and to help them to improve theirs.
In 2008, SEGRO held three Breakfast Briefings in partnership with the Carbon Trust, for occupiers on the Slough Trading Estate to help occupiers to reduce their carbon footprints. We also continued to work with Slough Business Environment Club and Thames Water to help occupiers to reduce their water and energy consumption through the Resource Efficiency Action Programme. 15 SEGRO occupiers received Slough Business Environmental Club Awards in 2008.
In August, SEGRO hosted a conference in Slough to encourage businesses to come up with more environmentally-friendly ways for their employees to travel into work. 75,000 people commute to the Estate each day.
SEGRO also teamed up with Gazeley, Gladman, Goodman and ProLogis to create a forum on sustainability for the distribution warehouse sector. This new Developer Forum aims to create a best practice benchmark for sustainable development within the sector. Members will agree and adopt a common method to assess and benchmark the carbon impact of building products and total building carbon footprints. Brendan Fogarty, UK Environmental Manager, and Paul McSweeney, Senior Business Development Surveyor, represent SEGRO on the forum.
